''Beauty is power'' - Helena Rubinstein

Helena Rubinstein was a Polish entrepreneur and philanthropist born in 1872. In 1902, she started her business career in Australia distributing a beauty cream that her mother had used. She soon founded a beauty salon and manufactured cosmetics, working hard to expand her business at every turn. Rubinstein opened salons in London and Paris, and when World War I began she moved to America. Her beauty business grew into a worldwide cosmetics empire and Rubinstein created the Helena Rubinstein Foundation in 1953 to fund organisations for children's health.

1. CHANEL NO. 5

Launched over 90 years ago, Chanel No.5 is the most iconic perfume of all time. The chemical formula for the fragrance was compounded by French chemist and perfumer Ernest Beaux. Coco asked to created “a perfume with the scent of a woman”. And one of the proposed bottles number 5 became the timeless fragrance with hints of vanilla, may rose and jasmine. With Art Deco bottle, it was the first perfume to bear a designer's name.

MADAME GRES. THE GRAND DAME OF HAUTE COUTURE


Germaine Emilie Krebs was born in 1903, Paris. She changed her name several times, known as Alix Barton and later as "Madame Grès". In 1937 Krebs chose to sign Grès, the anagram of her Russian husband's first name Serg. And La Maison Grès officially opened in 1941 and was located at 1, rue de La Paix, in Paris. The Grand Dame of haute couture. She produced haute couture designs for clientele that included the Duchess of Windsor, Marlene Dietrich, Greta Garbo, Jackie Kennedy, and Dolores del Río.(big movie star of the '30s). In her day, in 30's Grès was considered the equal of Coco Chanel and Dior, she is almost completely unknown today.
